Frequently asked questions
Chat to Jo first if you’d like to use your own car. Your first lesson will likely be in the driving school car to assess where you’re at with your driving, then we can arrange to use your car for further lessons. Don’t forget that your car must be insured, have a current vehicle licence, have a current WOF and enough petrol in the tank. And if you’re on a learner licence, your car will need to have L plates on display.
Jo will drive you to a quiet car park where you’ll learn the basics of car control and steering. Once you’re feeling confident enough, and Jo decides you’re ready, you’ll start to drive on quiet roads. Each lesson is tailormade for you and you’ll progress to busier roads as you’re ready. The driving school car is equipped with dual controls which means Jo can safely stop the car, or speed up, if needed.
You must bring your driver licence with you and it’s best to wear closed shoes, like sneakers, rather than jandals or sandals. Let Jo know if you’re feeling tired or unwell, or otherwise not in a condition to focus on driving.
Yes, Jo can take you for a practice drive before your restricted or full test to brush up on any areas as needed . It won’t necessarily be the same route as your test but it will cover the same driving skills as your test and will be in a similar area to help you become familiar with the roads.
When you book your lesson Jo will arrange a convenient place to meet – at your home, school, or another convenient location.
Each one hour lesson is $80.00.
If you need to cancel your lesson please let Jo know at least 24 hours beforehand. Otherwise a cancellation fee may apply.
The number of lessons needed is different for each person. The more practice you have the better, so if you’re able to practice in between lessons you’ll need fewer professional lessons. It’s recommended that a learner driver has 120 hours of practice behind the wheel before sitting their restricted licence test. Once Jo has taken you for your first lesson she’ll be able to give you an idea of how many lessons you might need.
The driving school car is an automatic. If you want to learn to drive your own manual car Jo may be able to accommodate this – chat to her first.
